2018, Alice Sees the USA, baby

Alice Sees the USA

When we first found out that my dad was sick, we were on our way to Florida for Alice’s first real vacation. Sadly, the trip was cut short, but it did inspire me to make a goal. I want Alice to visit all 50 states before she turns 18. First of all, want to visit all 50 states, and I’ve only been to 19 of them! But this also gives Alice a chance to travel her home country and see so many amazing things that are not in her backyard.

In order to keep my mind on positive things during my dad’s illness, I started mapping out the first few trips (yup, I’m a planner!).

July 2018–Charleston, SC

This trip was actually a Christmas gift for me, but I think it’s going to be just beautiful in the summer. The hotel is already booked! I think that Alice will marvel at the Magnolia Plantation, and I can’t wait to visit the Charleston City Market and sink my toes in the sand at Folly Beach and Edisto Beach! Oh, and I’m definitely snacking at Cupcake on King Street!

September/October 2018–Annapolis, MD and the Maryland Renaissance Festival

True, Alice has been to Maryland, since we live here, but I want her to visit the capitol (we truly do have a gorgeous one). And I think she’d have a blast at the Maryland Renaissance Festival (especially since I have friends that go ALL OUT with costumes!)

September/October 2018–Birmingham, AL

This trip is in a total MAYBE stage, but I’m really hoping that I can make it happen! I really want to eat at the Irondale Cafe and Saw’s Soul Kitchen and see the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. And most importantly, I want to meet up with Nadine and Laura!

December 2018–New York, NY

My mom and I always go to New York City at Christmastime, but we skipped it last year since Alice was such a wee little thing. This year, Alice gets to experience all the lights and glory that is an NYC Christmas!!

Make sure that you follow along via the blog–I’ll be giving recaps for sure!

  1. Ahhhhh!!!! No one EVER has Birmingham on the travel list and it is a darn shame!!! Come on down, Laura and I will eat all the things with you!!!

  2. Jeffrey went to Charleston, SC (well Isle of Palms) when he was 10 months old. He pained his first picture at Children’s Museum of the Low Country. We had a blast there!
