Show Us Your Books: November to January

I just realized that I never posted about the books I read in November since I was SO sick for a lot of the month of December (ugh). But now that we’re in a new year, it’s time for a new set of book reviews!

The Next Person You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom (5 out of 5 Stars)

Years ago, I read The Five People You Meet in Heaven, and while I liked it, I wasn’t overly in love with it. On the other hand, this book is just WONDERFUL. The story flows beautifully, the five people are so excellently chosen, and I definitely cried more than once. I thought it would be too hard to read, considering the fact that I lost my dad less than a year ago, but instead, it made me want to appreciate the time I have on this earth. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren (4 out of 5 Stars)

Two books that I loved in a row? Fantastic!!! I really enjoyed this story of a couple that slowly fell in love over the years through their book and words obsessions. There were some parts that were a little awkward, and I felt like there were a few parts that could have been left out completely, but overall, I loved it. Another to highly recommend!

A Spark of Light by Jodi Picoult (Did not finish)

I just couldn’t get into it. The back and forth in time was a little hard to follow.

All the Beautiful Lies by Peter Swanson

Once I found out who the killer is, I didn’t want to read anymore. It was just too predictable.

  1. I read Josh and Hazel by Christina Lauren and while I liked it, I’m not sure I’m going to read more of her books. I’m not a romance fan but if I did want to read more, it’s good to know I probably won’t hate it.

  2. Love and Other Words was my first Christina Lauren book and I’ve been devouring more of hers since. Such fun, reads! I was not a fan of Spark of Light, even though I love Picoult. I can see why it was a DNF for you. I read the Five People You Meet in Heaven years ago but really liked it as well. I didn’t realize he had a new book out.

  3. I have never read a Jodi Picoult book which I know is totally crazy, but I will likely not be picking up that particular one. I really enjoy Mitch Albom’s writing but haven’t read any of his books in years so I will add that one to my list! I love Christina Lauren – have enjoyed all of their books so far!!

  4. The Next Person You Meet in Heaven sounds really good, but I have a feeling I will be really emotional while reading it as well. I lost my dad a few years ago and still have a bit of a hard time with it. But, the book does sound really wonderful!
